About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the testing supervisors and testing personnel, performs general laboratory testing in any of the various sections of the laboratory, performs control testing and initiates troubleshooting steps for problem areas. This role is responsible for consulting with testing personnel, testing supervisors, assistant lab manager or lab manager for assistance in resolving technical problems, decision making and areas of question. The technician will perform testing in any one or combination of laboratory sections (except Blood Bank) following test methods defined in the procedure manual (after clinical rotation for that lab section) and under the direct supervision of testing personnel. Responsibilities include preparing specimens and routing them to appropriate reference labs for all testing not performed in-house, assisting in keeping files and records up-to-date and orderly, performing quality control and instrument check procedures with appropriate documentation, and assisting in maintaining an adequate stock of supplies. Additionally, the technician will perform duties in other departments, including venipuncture, checking charges, scanning, indexing, and printing results, as necessary to assure maximum productivity and workflow. Maintaining good relations with patients, medical staff, co-workers, other departments and physician offices/homes that use our services is also a key aspect of this role. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (i.e. GED)
  • Enrolled in a school for Medical Laboratory Technician, clinical training in progress.
  • Good general condition.
  • Verbal ability to communicate with patients and other clientele instructions and other information.
  • Numerical ability to calculate by formula.
  • Form perception, color discrimination to perform specific lab tests.
  • Dependable.
