About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease under the professional direction of a qualified Medical Technologist or other certified Laboratory Scientist as defined by appropriate regulations. The technician must understand the technical aspects of all diagnostic procedures, including steps for unacceptable test/quality control performance and results. Direct patient contact may occur during phlebotomy, pediatric sweat chloride testing, bone marrow assistance, and/or therapeutic phlebotomy procedures. The scope of care may include testing for neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patients. The MLT supports the Laboratory's Performance Improvement Programs to ensure services exceed quality and customer service standards. Supporting a self-directed laboratory team concept is demonstrated through a positive attitude, willingness to give and accept constructive criticism, maintaining high-quality work standards, and accepting other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved by the Health Education and Welfare Academic and Sciences Program prior to 1980 or the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as of 1980; or Meet the CLIA Standard; Testing personnel qualification 42CFR493.1423 for moderate complexity testing and 42CFR493.1489 for high complexity testing.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by the ASCP, AMT, or other organization deemed comparable is not required but preferred.
  • A State of Tennessee License is not required.
