About The Position

Overlake Medical Center Laboratory Department is currently seeking a Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician. The position includes assignments in pre-transfusion testing. The applicant is expected to have familiarity with a variety of laboratory instruments, excellent troubleshooting skills, willingness to follow SOPs and Westgard QC rules established for the Overlake laboratory operation, and well-developed critical thinking. The applicant must be aware of the regulatory requirements governing laboratory practices and be prepared to comply. Good facility in various laboratory information systems is important and Epic experience is preferred. Applicants skilled in the Microsoft Office Suite are preferred. Finally, excellent interpersonal skills and understanding of team dynamics are important skills for candidates.

Requirements

  • Qualified ASCP registered applicant, either MT or MLT.
  • Hospital or reference laboratory experience.
  • Familiarity with a variety of laboratory instruments.

  • MT II: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or the Biological Sciences required.
  • MT II: Requires one of the following certifications: American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)-Medical Technologist (MT), American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) -Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), ASCP MLT plus a single certification such as hematology (H(ASCP)), chemistry (C(ASCP)), microbiology (M(ASCP)) or molecular biology (MB(ASCP)).
  • MT II: Two years’ experience as a Medical Technologist or experience specific to a needed area of expertise required.
  • MT: requires one of the following three educational backgrounds: Route 1: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or Mathematics, and either the successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technologist program or, prior to 2005, an ASCP-accredited Medical Technologist program.
  • MT: Route 1: One of the following certifications is required within six months of start date: American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) - Medical technologist (MT), or American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or National Credentialing Agency (NCA) Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS).
  • MT: Route 2: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or Mathematics plus 2 years of full-time clinical laboratory experience, and ASCP-MT, ASCP-MLS, or NCA-CLS certification.
  • MT: Route 3: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or Mathematics, plus 4 years of full-time clinical laboratory experience with at least 4 months in each of the normal clinical laboratory disciplines (chemistry, hematology, immunology,, and microbiology, and ASCP-MT, ASCP-MLS, or NCA-CLS certification.
  • MT: ASCP-MT, ASCP-MLS, or NCA-CLS certification is required prior to start date, unless hired under Route 1, in which case is required within six months of start date.
  • MT Non Certified: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field is required.
  • MLT: Associate's degree from a community college in Medical Laboratory Science required.
  • MLT: 90 quarter hours/60 semester hours credit military program in Medical Laboratory Science also acceptable.
  • MLT: Also requires one of the following certifications within six months of hire date: ASCP MLT, American Association of Bioanalysts - with Bachelor Degree in Science and MLT certification, or NCA CLT.

Nice To Haves

  • Epic experience is preferred.

  • Minimum of one year experience in a hospital-based lab as a generalist or microbiologist (depending upon the skill set needed at time of hire) is preferred.

  • NAACS accredited MLT program preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a hospital-based lab is preferred.
