About The Position

The Medical Lab Tech (MLT) position in the Clinical Lab at Harlingen Medical Center is a part-time role with variable 8-hour shifts. The primary responsibilities include collecting and processing specimens, performing routine and specialized tests, interpreting results, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory data. The role also involves adhering to quality control procedures, maintaining equipment, and following hospital policies and safety regulations. Occasional patient interaction for specimen collection and explanation of procedures is also part of the role.

Requirements

Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
ASCP certification, or equivalent, required within one year of employment.
Associates Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
1 year of hospital laboratory work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Collect, process, and prepare specimens such as blood, urine, and other bodily fluids for analysis.
Perform routine and specialized tests to analyze specimens and provide data on patient health, which may include tests in hematology, chemistry, and other areas.
Interpret lab test results and ensure accuracy.
Enter data into laboratory information systems and prepare reports for healthcare providers.
Follow quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.
Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance tasks.
Adhere to hospital policies, safety regulations, and accreditation standards.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Occasionally interact with patients, particularly when collecting specimens, and explain procedures to ensure patient comfort and cooperation.
