About The Position

The Medical Lab Tech works in the Clinical Lab at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. The position is part-time, with variable shifts consisting of 8-hour shifts. The role involves collecting and preparing specimens, performing laboratory tests, interpreting results, maintaining quality control, and following hospital safety and accreditation requirements. The technician may occasionally interact with patients while collecting specimens.

Requirements

Hold a current and valid state license if required in the state where the laboratory is located.
Obtain ASCP certification or an equivalent certification within one year of employment.
Have an associate degree in chemical, physical, or biological science, or have completed coursework in a Medical Laboratory Technician program.

Nice To Haves

One year of hospital laboratory work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Collect, process, and prepare blood, urine, and other bodily fluid specimens for analysis.
Perform routine and specialized tests, including tests in hematology, chemistry, and other areas, to provide data on patient health.
Interpret laboratory test results, ensure accuracy, enter data into laboratory information systems, and prepare reports for healthcare providers.
Follow quality control procedures, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, and perform routine maintenance tasks.
Adhere to hospital policies, safety regulations, and accreditation standards; maintain a clean and organized work environment and use personal protective equipment as required.
Occasionally interact with patients during specimen collection and explain procedures to support patient comfort and cooperation.
