About The Position

Works under the supervision of the Section Supervisor or Lead. Under general supervision, contributes to the quality of laboratory testing by preparing, pouring, sterilizing media, setting up cultures and staining for interpretation by the Clinical Laboratory Scientists, organizing and processing specimens on automated equipment and instruments and by performing preventative maintenance and instrument checks. Performs other duties as assigned. Assists physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing tests, under supervision, following established laboratory procedures. Performs preventative maintenance on instruments and does instrument function checks to ensure Instruments are reliable and accurate. Uses the laboratory computers in various aspects of testing and reporting. Receives and/or collects specimens directly from the patient and prepares the specimens for analysis. Ensures media and reagents are available for use by the Clinical Laboratory Scientists by preparing, pouring and sterilizing media. Assists the Clinical Laboratory Scientist in patient testing by setting up cultures and staining slides, and other duties as assigned. Ensures the laboratory equipment is functioning properly by monitoring and recording operational data from freezers, refrigerators, water baths and other equipment as needed or required. Assists physicians in the accurate diagnosis of patients by verifying all results with a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Adheres to the established safety procedures and reports any unsafe conditions immediately to the Supervisor or Department Head. Applies the Hospital’s Policies and Procedures regarding guest relations. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Laboratory Technician is preferred.

  • Some college education is desirable.
