About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist processes and tests laboratory specimens, reviews and reports results, and serves as a resource to other laboratory personnel. The role includes operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Additional responsibilities include supporting new equipment validation and implementation, training employees and assessing competency, and contributing to regulatory compliance, quality assurance, quality control, and instrument maintenance.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university and/or graduation from an accredited school of medical technology, or an equivalent qualification such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489, or qualification at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on an HHS examination before 2/28/92 under 42 CFR 493.1491.
Meet CLIA criteria for High Complexity testing under 42 CFR 493.1489 and 42 CFR 493.1491.
Two years as a medical technologist in an acute care facility, or one year as a medical technologist in an acute care facility and a master’s degree.
Register with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS) within 12 months of hire.
For non-US-trained personnel, complete an equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES, or AICE within 30 days of hire.
Obtain state licensure, as required.

Responsibilities

Process and test all types of laboratory specimens.
Review and report laboratory results.
Act as a resource to other laboratory personnel.
Perform operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
Assist with new equipment validation and implementation.
Provide employee training and conduct competency assessments.
Support regulatory compliance responsibilities for CAP, TCJ, AABB, or other agencies.
Participate in quality assurance and quality control.
Perform instrument maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
