About The Position

This is a pool position with no guarantee of hours. The Medical Lab Scientist conducts routine and complex laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role involves interpreting test results, operating instruments, and supporting clients accessing laboratory services. The position also oversees daily laboratory practices for assigned sections, including procedure documentation, quality assurance, quality control monitoring, instrument maintenance, competency and proficiency programs, staff training, and preparing for certification, licensure, and accreditation processes.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent education.
Certification as MLS (ASCP), or MT (ASCP), or equivalent.
Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.

Nice To Haves

Two years of experience as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.

Responsibilities

Conduct routine and complex laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Interpret test results.
Operate laboratory instruments.
Support clients accessing laboratory services.
Oversee daily laboratory practices for assigned lab section.
Manage procedure documentation.
Monitor quality assurance and quality control.
Perform instrument maintenance.
Oversee competency and proficiency programs.
Train staff.
Prepare for certification, licensure, and accreditation processes.
Analyze and troubleshoot chemical and biological reactions to solve complex pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical problems.
Effectively and efficiently report analyzed data to lab managers, MLS technical consultants, providers, and pathologists.
Assess competency of MLT and MLS employees.
Assist MLS Technical Consultants in providing effective training to new employees and students.
Perform standard laboratory analyses accurately according to published procedures and turnaround times.
Validate results, including recognizing questionable results, investigating causes, and taking appropriate action regarding test result release.
Communicate written and verbal information to customers regarding appropriate specimen collection, transport, and test methodology.
Interpret test results.
Handle client service issues at all levels appropriately, courteously, and effectively with a customer focus.
Interpret, initiate, and comply with regulatory guidelines as required by regulatory agencies.
Display competency in Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Blood Banking, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Urinalysis.
Utilize critical thinking for problem solving.
Multitask effectively and accurately in a stressful environment.
Maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
