About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist performs tests related to the diagnosis and treatment of patients using a variety of medical laboratory procedures in the Clinical Laboratory. The role correlates and integrates other patient data when interpreting test results and applies professional judgment, in-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques and scientific principles, quality control, and instrument maintenance. The scientist recognizes problems, identifies causes, and determines alternative methods and solutions. The position is based at Eagle Health Plaza and is a full-time night-shift role. Requirements

Bachelor's degree required.
Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), or equivalent certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required, or registry eligibility with certification obtained within one year of hire.
In-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques, scientific principles, quality control, and instrument maintenance.
Ability to use professional judgment, recognize problems, identify causes, and determine alternative methods and solutions.

Responsibilities

Performs, records, and reviews scheduled quality control (QC), taking immediate corrective action when QC data is outside established limits.
Verifies specimen labeling, integrity, and suitability before testing.
Performs low-, medium-, and high-complexity testing accurately according to established protocols and regulatory requirements.
Reports test results accurately and appropriately.
Reports critical test results to physicians, nursing stations, or physician offices according to established protocols.
Performs phlebotomy when needed according to laboratory policies and procedures.
Monitors supply inventory and takes appropriate action to ensure needed supplies are readily available.
