About The Position

Metabolon, Inc., is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to work within the Sample Preparation group as an integral member of our Global Metabolomic Services team. The scientist in this position will report to the Supervisor of Sample Preparation and will be responsible for all aspects of the sample processing, which includes both manual and automated sample preparation procedures. The successful candidate will have experience in regulated sample preparation procedures and will be expected to continuously improve processes and procedures as required. In addition, the candidate shall also have a successful laboratory performance track record.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical, biological, or related science, such as chemistry, biology, clinical chemistry, biochemistry.
  • 2-4 years of experience in clinical testing, regulated laboratory, or high-throughput laboratory environment
  • Experience applying technical knowledge and sound judgment to independently plan and execute complex laboratory activities and resolve problems.
  • Must be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. This may include a broad understanding of chemistry, including chemical structures and nomenclature, and familiarity with general concepts, practices and procedures is expected.
  • Familiarity with general lab processes and applying knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks.
  • Comfortable working on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative.
  • Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
  • The ability to Work independently or in a team environment.
  • Write experimental protocols, analyze data and summarize reports.
  • Assist with analytical instrumentation as required
  • Provide mentorship to junior scientists in the basic tasks and protocols in the laboratory
  • A desire to increase breadth of knowledge outside core competencies

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform sample measurements, including pipetting and weighing of biological samples.
  • Prepare solutions and standards needed for operations of instruments, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Operate laboratory instruments and conduct routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and system performance checks.
  • Develop the ability to diagnose instrument problems and perform basic unscheduled maintenance or identify external repair service is needed.
  • Oversee the data collection for samples and review data to ensure that data quality standards are met.
  • Perform work and document work within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Provide daily reports for documentation of the QC performance for each data set.
  • Assist with secondary review of QC performance reports with eventual final report analysis.
  • Provide input for improving and refining the quality control and assurance process.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement programs.
  • Assist in revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within scope of work.
  • Following the training period, perform tasks with little instruction on daily work and execute newly introduced assignments with general instructions.
  • Understand company goals and how they contribute to the achievement of those goals.
  • Additional tasks assigned may include aiding the sample preparation laboratory and assisting other lab team members with specified tasks.
  • This role may require overtime and/or occasional weekend work.
