About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to perform routine clinical pathology testing and instrument management of laboratory services with guidance. The role is responsible for accurately recording results and ensuring their timely delivery. The Medical Lab Scientist has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for the accurate performance of laboratory test methodologies used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and the evaluation of patient response to treatment. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Required)
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • Less than 1 year of experience
  • Employee will be given 18 months to obtain Medical Lab Scientist Certification through "ACSP" OR "AMT"
  • Diagnostic Testing (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates proficiency of diagnostic testing in practical applications. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering results.
  • Equipment Maintenance (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience conducting maintenance activities in area of assignments.
  • Quality Assurance (Fundamental Awareness): Understands the goal of increasing organizational productivity and individual performance by making the products and services within your work assignments more efficient and more effective. Demonstrates quality management practices on the job which result in superior products and services delivered.
  • Data Analysis (Fundamental Awareness): Has some training, exposure, or limited experience in data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient-focused care in a clinical setting through the accurate performance of routine tests through the pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic stages.
  • Performs qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures, including reagent preparation and appropriate quality control, according to required protocols, with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships as well as physiological conditions affecting test results.
  • Assumes responsibility for routine and entry-level client analytical work.
