Medical Lab Scientist
About The Position
As a key member of the laboratory team, the Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a wide range of waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing procedures in accordance with established protocols and regulatory standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, independent judgment, and a commitment to delivering accurate, timely results with minimal supervision and will work within a generalist scope working in a variety of departments. This position serves patients across all age groups and is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service while promoting patient safety and a culture of quality. The successful candidate demonstrates professionalism, collaboration, and adherence to organizational service standards when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with necessary science/math credits as required and verified by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) required
- New Graduate’s degree must be validated within 2 months post-graduation
- ASCP-BOC certified within 6-months, with first exam completed within 3-months of hire. Certification must be verified within 6 weeks of exam
- Must possess good computer knowledge and input skills
- Transportation available for off campus laboratory related activities may be required
- A valid driver’s license, a driving record in good standing, and the minimum amount of insurance liability coverage may be required
Nice To Haves
- At least 2 years recent experience in a large acute care facility preferred
Responsibilities
- Operating, maintaining, validating, and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation and equipment
- Performing quality control, proficiency testing, and quality assurance activities
- Recognizing and responding to factors that may affect test accuracy and reliability
- Identifying abnormal or unexpected results
- Supporting the implementation of new testing methodologies
- Participating in special projects and process improvement initiatives
