About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II provides state-of-the-art laboratory specimen testing, including phlebotomy, from neonates to geriatric patients ensuring patient safety. This is a FULL-TIME EVENINGS position.

Requirements

Bachelors Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489.
Personnel who, prior to 2/28/92 have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on a HHS examination.
The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489, Jan. 24, 2003).
2 years as a medical technologist in acute care facility OR 1 year as a medical technologist in acute care facility and a Master’s degree.
Registered with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS within 12 months of hire).
Equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES or AICE for non-US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire.
Licensure, as required by State.

Responsibilities

Processes and tests blood and other body fluid specimens for the clinical laboratory
Reviews test results and applies the correct clinical interpretation of that data
Reports lab results accurately and responsively, to include use of a laboratory information system
Performs operation, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment
Performs venous and capillary phlebotomy and ensures specimen integrity as necessary
Performs basic clerical functions
Writes procedures and assist in the development of department policies
Acts as a resource person for providing information and problem solving for the Medical Technicians, Medical Lab Scientist I, Phlebotomists and other laboratory personnel
Assisting with new equipment validation and implementation, employee and student training and competency assessment, regulatory compliance responsibilities for CAP, TCJ, AABB or other agencies, quality assurance, quality control and instrument maintenance
Assists with R&D projects as required
Relays orders, take inventory and stocks supplies
Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
Maintains safe environment
Addresses patient population-specific needs
Participates in Performance Improvement activities
