The Medical Laboratory Scientist I is responsible for testing patient specimens, ensuring accuracy of tests, and communicating results to providers. This role involves performing high complexity tests, operating specialized equipment for quantitative or qualitative analysis, and maintaining acceptable levels of quality control. Key duties include determining specimen suitability, ensuring correct patient identity throughout testing, and investigating/correcting unexpected or unacceptable results. The scientist must also ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from CAP, AABB, DNV, and FDA, and maintain equipment through calibration and troubleshooting. The position requires significant interaction with nursing staff and other hospital departments.
