About The Position

Johnson Memorial Health is seeking a Medical Imaging Secretary to join their team. This role involves managing administrative tasks within the medical imaging department, ensuring smooth patient flow, accurate record-keeping, and effective communication. The secretary will be responsible for handling phone calls, greeting patients, entering orders, managing imaging systems, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the department's operations and contributing to patient care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a formal medical terminology program is required.
  • Training in computer systems and operational procedures provided.

Nice To Haves

  • One year post high school training preferred.
  • Previous experience in radiology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answers incoming telephone calls, takes messages, obtains information, provides information as appropriate regarding patient status, and routes calls or messages to appropriate person or department.
  • Provides back-up for telephone answering services for multiple extensions throughout the department.
  • Greets patients and families. Provides directions and information to patients, families, and visitors.
  • Enters appropriate orders in the computer.
  • Clarifies orders, results, messages, etc. with appropriate person.
  • Contacts physicians/providers for orders as needed to complete exams.
  • Calls STAT reports to physicians/providers, obtains follow-up instructions and relays appropriate information to patients.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with the PACS system. Creates CDs for continuity of patient care. Uploads and sends images to the cloud as requested.
  • Picks up mail from Central Supply and distributes to appropriate staff within department.
  • Responds to patients' requests as appropriate. Keeps technologists informed of patient/family needs and questions.
  • Maintains work environment in clean and orderly fashion. Inventories and restocks supplies as necessary.
  • Routinely charges exams as needed. Generates reports and statistical data.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient related issues.
  • Attends and participates in department related in-services, conferences, and meetings. May assist in orientation of new staff.
  • Works with others to achieve department and organizational goals. Utilizes proper chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.
  • Monitors printers, facsimile machine, and copy machine routinely throughout the shift to ensure timely receipt and/or delivery of information/reports.
  • Participates in department staff meetings and CQI plan to improve organizational performance and achieve department and organizational goals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
