The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Medical Health Physicist to provide physics support under various licenses including a Broad Scope Medical License, Medical and Non-Medical Accelerator Licenses, and an Irradiator License. This role will support the University of Pennsylvania and its affiliates, which include over 150 research permits, a Veterinary School with animal hospitals, and a Dental School. The position also supports the University Health System (including multiple hospitals), the Division of Community Radiology, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Cyclotron Facility, and over 30 Ambulatory Care facilities. The Medical Health Physicist will assist user groups in developing and conducting procedures for the safe use of radiation sources and radioactive materials to ensure staff and patient safety in Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, and Radiology. This includes supporting the development of procedures for safe human-use research, evaluating facility suitability for radiation hazard mitigation, and implementing programs for compliance with Federal, State, and best practice guidelines (e.g., Joint Commission, American Board of Radiology, Department of Health). The role requires maintaining radiation doses ALARA, auditing for regulatory compliance, and staying knowledgeable of applicable regulations and standards. The Medical Health Physicist will independently identify problem areas, analyze issues, and implement corrective actions. Additionally, the role involves planning, assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of technical staff, as well as writing and updating SOPs and policies. The position will also work on unique and complex projects.
