About The Position

The Medical Director provides professional case consultation to medical staff, collaborates on medical clinic policy and procedure development, and oversees the Medication Clinic and Crisis Care center. This role also leads the annual review of the agency's formulary, medical forms, and medication services protocols. The Medical Director participates in recruiting medical personnel, oversees the physician peer review system, and implements a new physician mentor program. Additionally, they provide psychiatric and primary care consultation to all agency programs and locations, collaborate with physicians on professional development, and hire, train, retain, and supervise all medical staff. The role also involves community education focused on reducing mental health stigma and increasing understanding of mental illness and available resources. The Psychiatrist functions include providing psychiatry medication assessment and review, conducting psychiatric assessments, prescribing psychotropic medications, and conducting regular pharmacological management assessments. This role also involves educating clients about medication and supporting medication compliance, collaborating with the clinical team, serving as a liaison with hospitals and emergency treatment facilities, and documenting client progress.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree with Psychiatry Specialty
  • Minimum of 5 year of psychiatry experience (may include residency experience).
  • Extensive experience diagnosing mental health problems with adult clients
  • Demonstrates knowledge of co-occurring disorders and appropriate interventions.
  • Medicaid, Medicare & ODMHSAS billing credentials

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in community-based mental health organization is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure medical staff obtain and maintain professional licenses and certifications required for their positions through attending required trainings, tracking CEU’s and submitting renewals in a timely manner.
  • Provides professional case consultation to medical staff, i.e. physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, residents, nursing staff, regarding consumer diagnosis, pharmacology, treatment interventions, & coordination of care.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Program Officer of Medical and Crisis Services regarding medical clinic policy & procedure review & development, psychiatry outcome development, tracking & analysis, evidence based prescribing practice research & implementation & medication clinic practices & protocols for quality improvement i.e. walk-in flow, wait times, practice management.
  • Offers second opinion consultation when either FCS Medical staff or consumer requests additional case/treatment review.
  • Provides oversight in the Medication Clinic and Crisis Care center, documentation, best practices, standard of care, clinical service utilization.
  • Leads annual review of Family & Children’s Services Formulary, medical forms and Medication Services Protocols.
  • Serves as active member of the Outpatient & CrisisCare Center Medication Service Committees, meets quarterly.
  • Participates in recruiting of all medical personnel
  • Oversees development and implementation of the FCS quality improvement physician peer review system.
  • Implement and oversee new physician mentor program and 30/60/90-day peer review process
  • Provides psychiatric & primary care consultation to all FCS programs and locations
  • Collaborates with physicians on selection of annual professional development training opportunities / CME'S.
  • Hire, train, retain & supervise all Medical Staff including Clinic Manager, Nursing Staff and Medical Providers.
  • Participate in Community Education with a focus on decreasing the stigma of mental health, increasing understanding of mental illness and explain resources that FCS has to offer.
  • Provides psychiatry medication assessment and review according to agency scheduling practices. This may be accomplished through a combination of scheduled appointments and unscheduled; (walk-in, crisis & back fill consumers.)
  • Conducts psychiatric assessments including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination and diagnosis
  • Prescribes psychotropic medications according to agency preferred practices and approved formulary
  • Conducts regular Pharmacological Management assessments for therapeutic responses and side effects, and educates clients regarding psychotropic medications.
  • Works with consumer to educate about medication and to support and encourage medication compliance
  • Works collaboratively with clinical team to ensure that clients obtain needed medication prescriptions and refills, offer services to walk-in clients as needed, and design successful treatment tracks for potentially difficult clients.
  • Serves as liaison between F&CS and various hospital and emergency treatment facilities to obtain needed inpatient treatment for clients.
  • Documents client progress to maintain a permanent record of client activity according to established methods and procedures in a timely manner.
  • Provide leadership on medical matters in monthly physician meeting.
