About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Director to provide part-time medical leadership and clinical oversight for our post-acute and long-term care sites in the Hampton, VA area. This role combines clinical practice with administrative responsibilities to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration with facility teams.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution
  • Active, unrestricted Virginia medical license
  • Current DEA registration and required certifications (e.g., BLS) as applicable
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records and comfort with telehealth platforms
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present clinical findings and lead education or quality initiatives
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, ethical practice, and continuous improvement

Nice To Haves

  • Board certification in family medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics, or related specialty preferred
  • Minimum of five years clinical experience, with prior experience in post-acute, long-term care, geriatrics, or medical directorship roles strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, clinical judgement, and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical oversight and leadership across assigned skilled nursing, assisted living, and post-acute care facilities in the Hampton area
  • Conduct regular rounds, perform comprehensive resident assessments, and ensure appropriate clinical management of acute and chronic conditions
  • Collaborate with facility leadership, attending physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to support clinical excellence and care continuity
  • Review and support development of policies, clinical protocols, and care pathways consistent with current standards and regulatory requirements
  • Provide guidance on medication management, polypharmacy reduction, and antimicrobial stewardship initiatives
  • Participate in case reviews, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement activities to drive measurable outcomes
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation and chart review in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR); facilitate provider documentation quality and compliance
  • Serve as a clinical resource for facility staff, families, and external providers; support effective transitions of care and timely communication regarding resident status
  • Support onboarding, mentoring, and performance evaluation of attending clinicians and advanced practice providers as needed
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, participate in inspections and audits, and support corrective action planning
