The medical director role at Children's Minnesota, in partnership with operational and patient care dyads, ensures that clinical care provided by the department or service line excels across the six domains of quality: safe, effective, equitable, patient-centered, timely and efficient. The medical director has primary responsibility for recruiting, retaining, and developing a highly engaged and productive physician and advanced practice workforce whether through employment, professional services agreement or collaborative relationships in the best interest of the patient and the health of the organization. The medical director brings clinical expertise to multi-disciplinary strategic planning, clinical programming, executing departmental operating plan and achieving financial sustainability. A successful medical director embraces the authority and accountability for clinical outcomes and partners across clinical, operational and financial teams to advance the value of Children's Minnesota as a community asset. The role reports to a clinical Vice President or Senior Medical Director of the health system division, oversees several provider direct reports, and partners with the chief of the relevant professional staff division on matters of privileging, peer review and health and conduct. Continued clinical practice in a specialty of pediatrics, including call, weekend and holiday coverage as applicable, is an expectation of the role. Number of direct reports and scope of oversight of services may change from time to time with the needs of the department and the organization.
