About The Position

The Medical Director serves as the clinical authority and stabilizing leader for Root Causes Medicine. This role is responsible for maintaining clinical standards, ensuring patient safety, supporting provider development, and reinforcing consistent medical practices across the clinic. The ideal Medical Director brings steady leadership, sound clinical judgment, and a structured approach to care delivery, while remaining adaptable to the individualized needs of patients within an integrative model. This role is not primarily administrative in the abstract, nor purely patient-care focused. It is designed for a physician who values clear protocols, reliable systems, and collaborative leadership, and who partners closely with operational leadership to support sustainable clinic growth.

Requirements

  • MD or DO licensed in the state of Texas.
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or a comparable field.
  • Experience supervising or collaborating with nurse practitioners and advanced practice providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with consistency, structure, and sound judgment.
  • Strong communication skills and emotional maturity in complex clinical environments.
  • Openness to learning integrative or functional medicine is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care within the Root Causes integrative and functional medicine model.
  • Evaluate and guide individualized treatment plans with attention to safety, appropriateness, and consistency.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, diagnostics, and therapies in alignment with established clinical standards.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
  • Serve as the primary medical authority for clinical decision-making.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to nurse practitioners and prescribing providers.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex or higher-risk clinical cases.
  • Support the development, implementation, and refinement of clinical guidelines, pathways, and protocols.
  • Reinforce adherence to standards while allowing appropriate clinical judgment.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to clinical providers through clear expectations, feedback, and example.
  • Foster a calm, respectful, and professional clinical environment.
  • Support provider confidence and consistency in applying Root Causes’ care model.
  • Model accountability, reliability, and patient-centered decision-making.
  • Partner closely with the Head of Practice to align clinical operations with established workflows, training, and systems.
  • Participate in forward-looking planning related to clinical staffing, training needs, and care delivery consistency.
  • Support operational initiatives by providing clinical input that improves safety, clarity, and efficiency.
  • Maintain clear boundaries between clinical leadership and operational execution while working collaboratively.
