About The Position

The Hampton–Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is seeking a skilled and compassionate psychiatrist to serve as Medical Director at the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center, a 16-bed adult inpatient crisis stabilization unit. This leadership role offers the chance to directly influence high-quality care for individuals experiencing serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. Requirements

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) with specialization in Psychiatry
Active license to practice in Virginia, including Controlled Substance Registration and DEA certification
Board certification in Psychiatry
Experience in clinical and/or hospital-based psychiatric settings
Strong clinical expertise in psychiatric care, especially in treating serious mental illness.
Solid understanding of psychotropic medications, crisis response, and co-occurring disorders.
Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations governing mental health care.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to maintain thorough, accurate clinical documentation.

Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of psychiatric services within the crisis unit.
Perform psychiatric assessments.
Establish diagnoses.
Develop individualized treatment plans.
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams on admissions, treatment coordination, and discharge planning.
Contribute expertise in case reviews and consultations.
