About The Position

As the Medical Director of Convenient Care Practices, you'll provide clinical, operational, and strategic leadership for Convenient Care services across Thundermist Health Center while continuing to deliver direct patient care. You'll partner with executive leaders, nursing, operations, patient access, and provider teams to improve access to care, optimize workflows, support provider performance, and advance innovative care delivery models that meet community needs. You'll serve as the primary clinical leader for Convenient Care providers, helping shape the future of these services through quality improvement, workforce engagement, and strategic planning. Your work will directly support Thundermist's mission of advancing health equity and ensuring high-quality, accessible care for diverse and underserved populations throughout Rhode Island.

Requirements

  • Current unrestricted Rhode Island license and all credentials required to practice within your professional discipline.
  • Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner strongly preferred; other Advanced Practice Providers with equivalent clinical and leadership experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of two years of post-graduate clinical experience in primary care, urgent care, convenient care, emergency medicine, or a related ambulatory setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing providers, programs, projects, teams, or clinical operations.
  • Strong knowledge of ambulatory clinical operations, quality improvement, access management, and patient-centered care delivery.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with the ability to mentor providers and influence organizational initiatives.
  • Commitment to health equity, community health, and delivering compassionate, culturally responsive care to diverse and underserved populations.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with executive and operational leaders to develop and implement the strategic vision for Convenient Care services.
  • Establish departmental goals related to clinical quality, patient experience, access, and operational performance.
  • Evaluate community healthcare access needs and lead the development of innovative care delivery models and access initiatives.
  • Facilitate regular Convenient Care provider meetings and promote alignment across providers and leadership.
  • Develop and maintain clinical workflows, operational standards, and provider practice expectations.
  • Serve as a key liaison among providers, nursing, operations, patient access, and executive leadership.
  • Provide direct patient care while modeling high-quality, person-centered clinical practice.
  • Collaborate with organizational leaders to continuously assess and evolve Convenient Care services to meet changing community needs.
  • Partner with Patient Access and Front Office leaders to optimize scheduling templates, capacity planning, and clinic utilization.
  • Collaborate with nursing and operational leaders to improve staffing models, workflows, and resource allocation.
  • Utilize clinical, operational, access, and patient experience data to guide decision-making and departmental priorities.
  • Monitor departmental performance metrics related to quality, access, throughput, patient safety, and provider engagement.
  • Review patient experience data and implement improvement initiatives in partnership with operational leaders.
  • Analyze trends involving patients who leave without being seen and develop corrective action strategies.
  • Maintain documentation of clinical guidance, workflow decisions, operational standards, and issue resolution activities.
  • Support risk management, regulatory compliance, and adherence to organizational policies and scope-of-practice standards.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development support to Convenient Care providers.
  • Oversee and support the Associate Medical Director of Convenient Care.
  • Participate in provider recruitment, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and retention efforts.
  • Partner with organizational leaders to strengthen provider engagement and workforce development strategies.
  • Lead peer review activities, provider performance evaluations, quality improvement initiatives, and corrective action planning when appropriate.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and patient-centered care.
