About The Position

The Medical Director, Occupational Health & Preventive Medicine is a 0.6 FTE physician leadership role responsible for providing clinical oversight, strategic direction, and operational leadership across occupational health and employer-focused service lines. This is a working Medical Director position that combines direct patient care responsibilities with physician leadership, quality oversight, provider management, and program development. The Medical Director will oversee Advanced Practice Provider (APP) teams and support the continued growth, quality, and integration of Occupational Medicine, Employee Health, Direct-to-Employer Services, Medical Weight Management, Bone Health, Virtual Urgent Care, Remote Patient Monitoring, and Hybrid Occupational Health/Urgent Care delivery models. This physician leader will work collaboratively with operational leaders, nursing, APPs, employer partners, and health system leadership to advance population health, workforce wellness, prevention initiatives, and innovative care delivery models.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Unrestricted physician license
  • DEA registration (if applicable)
  • Eligibility for medical staff membership and credentialing
  • Required upon hire or within an established timeframe: Medical Review Officer (MRO) Certification

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the physician leader for Occupational Health and Preventive Medicine services.
  • Provide medical oversight, consultation, and clinical guidance to APPs and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Establish and maintain evidence-based clinical standards, protocols, and best practices.
  • Ensure high-quality patient care, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Participate in direct patient care as a practicing physician within assigned service lines.
  • Directly oversee APP staff within: Occupational Medicine, Employee Health, Direct-to-Employer Services, Medical Weight Management, Bone Health, Virtual Urgent Care, Remote Patient Monitoring, Hybrid Occupational Health/Urgent Care Services.
  • Responsibilities include: Clinical supervision and mentorship, Performance management and professional development, Quality and productivity oversight, Recruitment and onboarding support, Clinical competency assessment.
  • Lead growth and innovation initiatives across occupational health and preventive medicine programs.
  • Partner with business development and employer health teams to enhance employer-facing services.
  • Support development of new care delivery models that improve access, efficiency, and outcomes.
  • Evaluate emerging trends in occupational health, workforce wellness, virtual care, and preventive medicine.
  • Serve as a physician liaison to employer clients and community partners.
  • Support employer health strategies including workforce wellness, injury prevention, return-to-work programs, surveillance programs, and regulatory medical services.
  • Participate in presentations, client meetings, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Monitor quality, patient experience, and clinical outcomes.
  • Support readiness for accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, employer health, and occupational medicine regulations as applicable.
