About The Position

A Medical Affairs Medical Director has strong clinical and scientific training and can take on many aspects of medical affairs work (insight generation, scientific communications, external scientific engagement, provision of medical advice to internal stakeholders). The focus of the Medical Director is to provide input and expertise into the medicine strategy, develop and execute the related tactical plans, support external scientific engagement, and provide insight and deeper understanding of the data generated including recommending medical statements.

Requirements

  • PharmD, PhD, MD or advanced degree.
  • 4+ years industry and/or clinical experience in the oncology therapeutic area.
  • Demonstrated success leading and managing cross-functional work.
  • Disease and therapeutic area knowledge.
  • Robust experience networking, communication, and influencing to work effectively in a complex matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal and external networks.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced clinical or scientific doctorate (MD, PharmD, PhD) with hematology/oncology specialization.
  • Board certification or residency/fellowship training in hematology, oncology, or oncology pharmacy (BCOP).
  • Formal training in clinical research, epidemiology, or implementation science.
  • Direct experience in multiple myeloma or plasma cell disorders
  • Familiarity with BCMA-targeted modalities — ADCs, bispecifics, CAR-T and the sequencing questions across them.
  • Experience supporting a product with a REMS program, or with complex multidisciplinary safety monitoring (ocular, ophthalmology co-management, cardiac, neurologic).
  • US Medical Affairs experience at a launch or early post-launch asset.
  • Track record in evidence generation: RWE study design, ISS/IIS review, integrated evidence planning, external research collaborations.
  • Publication and congress planning, including authorship on peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Experience with compendia and guideline submissions (NCCN, pathways) and the compendia evidence package.
  • Prior work in MLR/promotional review, medical governance, or medical information.
  • Established relationships with academic and community Hematology/oncology key external experts.
  • Experience with advisory boards, scientific workshops, and peer-to-peer or independent medical education programs.
  • Field medical partnership — MSL training, insight synthesis, scientific narrative development.
  • Experience working across a global/local matrix with Global Medical Affairs and R&D.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the US Medical Affairs Lead with development and execution of US medical affairs plans, and as needed.
  • Leads planning and execution of medical tactics; contributes to medical material development, communication plans, application of external stakeholder insights.
  • Partners with Medical Communications & Scientific Training and Medical Information to ensure medical materials created align with US medical strategy and business needs.
  • Understands, interprets, and applies the external environment and competitive knowledge to all medical activities and can define the patient journey.
  • Provides input into the selection of US investigator sponsored studies in alignment with the global franchise.
  • Understands and communicates clinical and market access data requirements for the US market; in partnership with the US Medical Affairs Lead, provides input to shape clinical and health outcomes evidence plans to support anticipated US Market needs.
  • In partnership with the US Medical Affairs Lead, provides input into the design of clinical trials, development plans, and integrated evidence planning; coordinates with relevant Global Medical colleagues and R&D (Research & Development) technical experts, e.g., Global Value Evidence and Outcomes and Epidemiology, as required.
  • In collaboration with field medical, leads/contributes to appropriate US scientific engagement between GSK and external stakeholders/accounts to advance scientific and medical understanding including the appropriate development and use of our medicines, management of the disease, and patient care.
  • Partners with all relevant internal stakeholders to ensure successful execution of all medical activities to support life cycle management, ensuring integrity of scientific content.
