About The Position

Jazz Pharmaceuticals is a global biopharma company dedicated to developing life-changing medicines for people with serious diseases. The Medical Director, GI Oncology and Solid Tumors will report to the Executive Director, Solid Tumors and will be a key member of the US Medical Affairs organization. This role involves leading a cross-functional Medical Affairs team in developing and executing Medical Affairs plans. The Medical Director will collaborate with the brand team and Clinical Development on strategic planning and life cycle management for both marketed and in-development products. As a subject matter expert, the MD will guide and support internal teams (sales, marketing, regulatory, clinical), resolve medical issues, and contribute to the development of high-quality medical documents. The role also includes fostering strategic partnerships with Key Opinion Leaders and professional societies in oncology, and representing Medical Affairs externally through presentations at advisory boards, scientific meetings, and interactions with investigators. Collaboration with development or alliance partners will also be a part of this role.

Requirements

  • An Advanced degree (MD, DO, Ph.D., Pharm.D. or equivalent) is required.
  • Oncology experience required, preferably GI tumors and Breast Cancer.
  • 5-10 years in medical affairs or similar roles within a pharmacological company or equivalent clinical tenure in oncology is required.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal colleagues in sales, marketing, and managed care.
  • Proven successful management of teams either directly or in a matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build credible professional relations with Key Opinion Leaders.
  • Ability to deliver scientific presentations.
  • Self-starter with positive can-do attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with a matrix medical affairs team comprising of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), Medical Communications, HEOR, PVO, and Medical Information to develop a scientific platform and a medical strategic plan.
  • As a subject matter expert provide day-to-day clinical and medical guidance while working closely on joint projects with other members of the Medical Affairs team and other departments within Jazz; projects may include scientific congress/conference strategy and planning, advisory boards, publications, field force training, review of medical information standard response letters, health economics and epidemiology analyses, and marketing/policy related projects.
  • Provide scientific input into publication strategy and review manuscripts for publication and abstracts and posters for presentation at scientific meetings.
  • Participate in appropriate cross-functional and cross-company Clinical and Commercial teams to inform brand strategies and tactics and represent Medical Affairs.
  • Participate in the Investigator Sponsored Trial review and educational grant process.
  • Provide clinical and scientific support in responding to inquiries from healthcare professionals and managed care organizations.
  • Ensure that all medical affairs presentations are consistent, accurate, and clinically meaningful.
  • Provide medical input in the review and approval of promotional materials.
