About The Position

Pathlink is seeking a Board Certified Medical Director position for a Cytopathologist/Hematologist with some surgical pathology experience for a full-time position at Centrastate Hospital in Freehold, NJ. This is a hospital-based pathology practice seeking a board-certified/board-eligible Cytopathologist/Hemopathologist to serve as Medical Director within a comprehensive anatomic and clinical pathology department. The successful candidate will provide leadership in cytopathology and hematopathology services while contributing to general surgical pathology coverage. This role combines diagnostic expertise, laboratory leadership, quality oversight, interdisciplinary collaboration, and physician engagement in a community or academic hospital setting.

Requirements

Board Certified Medical Director position for a Cytopathologist/Hematologist with some surgical pathology experience.
Full Time 40 hours per week.
20-25 cases daily.
Experience with All specimen types – Hematopathology & Cytopathology with some general Surgical Pathology Surgical Specimen experience.
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
Completion of AP/CP pathology residency training.
Board certified or board eligible in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
New Jersey unrestricted medical license.
Strong diagnostic skills in cytopathology and hematopathology.
Experience in general surgical pathology sign-out.

Responsibilities

Interpret and diagnose Gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens, Fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens, including rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE), Bone marrow aspirates, biopsies, flow cytometry, and peripheral blood smears, and Lymph node and hematologic malignancy specimens.
Participate in general surgical pathology sign-out.
Provide intraoperative frozen section consultation as needed.
Correlate pathology findings with clinical, radiologic, molecular, and laboratory data.
Communicate significant and critical diagnostic findings directly with treating physicians.
Provide medical oversight for cytology and hematopathology laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and State and federal regulatory standards.
Lead quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
Develop and maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and best practices.
Participate in laboratory accreditation inspections and proficiency testing.
Collaborate with hospital administration on strategic planning, budgeting, and service development.
Participate in tumor boards, hematology/oncology conferences, and clinical committees related to Oncology, Hematology, Surgery, Interventional radiology, Pulmonology, and Gynecology.
Support clinical teams with timely consultations and diagnostic guidance.
Mentor pathology assistants, laboratory staff, residents, or fellows (if applicable).
Contribute to continuing medical education and departmental educational activities.
Promote a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
Participate in clinical research, translational studies, or quality projects (optional/preferred).
Assist with development of molecular diagnostics and advanced hematopathology services (optional/preferred).
Support growth of cytology and oncology service lines (optional/preferred).
