About The Position

This job is responsible for assisting self-pay patients across the Health System with Medicaid enrollment applications. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, interviewing self-pay patient referrals, explaining the significance of the program to patients, completing and submitting the Medicaid application, updating the various systems with the status of the case, following up with the patient or the state on the status of the case. This job serves as a point of escalation for patient inquires and is expected to be the expert for department processes and procedures, and providing additional support, coaching, and training to staff. Floater-will work remotely and in person when needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of customer service, healthcare, or office experience
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload without compromising assigned deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make independent decisions
  • Ability to demonstrate problem resolution and follow through
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to provide coaching and effective feedback

Responsibilities

  • Interviewing self-pay patient referrals
  • Explaining the significance of the program to patients
  • Completing and submitting the Medicaid application
  • Updating the various systems with the status of the case
  • Following up with the patient or the state on the status of the case
  • Serving as a point of escalation for patient inquiries
  • Providing additional support, coaching, and training to staff
  • Utilizing EPIC and census reports to conduct interview/screening of self-pay patients to identify eligibility for state/governmental financial programs
  • Utilizing Medicaid program knowledge when contacting Louisiana Department of Health to obtain application status
  • Enrolling patients in applicable programs following government financial program guidelines
  • Providing top quality customer service experience by providing appropriate/applicable levels of competency and professionalism with each patient contact
  • Working with supervisors to clear escalated patient inquiries, case management inquiries, and to ensure work queues remain current with daily departmental operations
  • Providing support, coaching, and training to new hires and existing staff
  • Adapting behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style
  • Remaining knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensuring compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
