About The Position

Bowhead seeks Medical Clerks to support the Department of Radiology (DOR) at the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, TX. The Medical Clerks are tasked with managing patient’s health records and history, patient information, processing discharge paperwork and various administrative duties within BAMC at Fort Sam Houston, TX. Support Hours: Monday – Friday 0600-1800 – 8-hour shift

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required at a minimum in addition to at least two (2+) years’ experience in a hospital administrative environment.
  • Intermediate level computer/PC knowledge required including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven office environment where privacy and confidentiality is critical while working alone and in teams to ensure mission success.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and provide proof of TDAP and Influenza vaccinations prior to employment and update as required.
  • US Citizenship is a requirement for this location.

  • Administrative experience in a government and/or hospital setting highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting and receiving patients in various clinics depending on the department assigned.
  • Maintain all patient records according to regulations, ensuring each entry contains proper patient and healthcare provider identification.
  • File medical documentation in the patient record and into research files as necessary.
  • Perform administrative procedures and provide paperwork to patients to fill out regarding insurance, third-party liability, or other designated documentation regarding patient treatment.
  • Perform Quality Assurance monitoring using appropriate tools regarding the completion and contents of the patient’s record.
  • Responsible for the clerical duties inherent to the in-processing (reception), care, and out-processing (transition) of outpatients, families/caregivers, and guests.
  • Notify appropriate staff of the patient's arrival.
  • Reconcile end-of-shift/end-of-day processing and reports in MHS GENESIS and applications within Citrix Storefront.
  • Respond to emergency calls and notify emergency medical personnel.
  • Follow clinic/practice communication procedures, which may include operating emergency phone lines, public announcement systems, and emergency alarms.
  • Receive minimum patient information and provide information to medical personnel.
  • Clearly communicate with associated parties during emergency-related operations.
  • Skilled in customer service and oral communications to provide information and assist patients/staff; gather factual information and explain clinic/practice services, policies, procedures, and complaint services to patients, family members/caregivers, and staff.
  • Use MHS Genesis to perform appointment scheduling, appointment cancellations, scheduling follow-up appointments, end-of-day processing, enrollment status verification, and updating of selected file data.
  • Conduct end-of-day closure, ensuring disposition of the day’s clinic appointments and/or resolving discrepancies to ensure correct workload accountability.
  • Call patients to change, cancel, and/or remind them of upcoming appointments.
  • Reschedule patient appointments if the provider is unavailable.
  • Assist patients requesting unscheduled examinations by obtaining information regarding the nature of the medical problem and making appropriate disposition in accordance with clinic policy guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned dependent upon the department assigned.
