About The Position

This role involves both clinical and administrative responsibilities in a podiatry medical setting. The Medical Assistant/Scribe will prepare patients for examinations, assist physicians with procedures, administer injections, perform various casting and debridement procedures, take X-rays, and manage documentation. Administrative duties include managing supplies, cleaning exam areas, greeting patients, answering phones, data entry, scheduling appointments, and verifying insurance.

Requirements

  • Experience with Epic (EHR/EMR system).
  • Knowledge of OSHA and HIPPA regulations.
  • Ability to take patient vitals.
  • Proficiency in recording medical history.
  • Skill in assisting with medical procedures.
  • Competence in administering injections.
  • Experience with casting and orthotics.
  • Ability to perform debridement (nail, callus, corn).
  • Experience with dressing changes.
  • Proficiency in performing X-rays.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Experience with supply management and restocking.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness of exam areas and equipment.
  • Excellent patient greeting and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in answering office phones.
  • Data entry skills.
  • Appointment scheduling skills.
  • Experience with insurance verification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination by taking vitals and recording medical history into Epic.
  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms.
  • Complies with OSHA and HIPPA regulations.
  • Schedules surgeries by making arrangements with surgical centers, verifying times with patients, and preparing charts, pre-admission, and consent forms.
  • Assists the physician with procedures.
  • Administers injections as directed by the physician.
  • Performs casting for orthotics, including applying below-knee casts, low-dying strapping to feet, and Unna boots.
  • Performs nail debridement and callus/corn debridement.
  • Performs dressing changes.
  • Performs X-rays.
  • Documents phone calls.
  • Updates logs.
  • Orders, sorts, and stores supplies and restocks exam rooms.
  • Cleans exam areas, sets up instruments and equipment, and cleans the sterilizer.
  • Greets patients, answers office phones, performs data entry, and schedules appointments.
  • Assists front office staff as needed.
  • Performs manual insurance verifications.
  • Performs other duties as determined appropriate by management.
