About The Position

SFCC provides a high-quality, geographically, financially and emotionally accessible education to more than 5,000 students who range from traditional college-age students to adult learners. The college offers associate of arts, associate of fine arts, associate of science and associate of applied science degrees, professional and skills certificates, and noncredit courses and programs, and workforce development training in a 14-county area in central Missouri with locations in Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, Lake of the Ozarks, Warsaw, at Whiteman Air Force Base, and online. Position Purpose: The Medical Assisting Program Medical Assisting Instructor is responsible for classroom and clinical skills lab instruction and assists with achieving program goals and objectives. Online instruction, on-ground skills lab instruction, and travel to multiple clinical sites and campus locations is required for this position. This person is also responsible for training and skills competencies for adjunct instructors. Other responsibilities involve evaluation of students and their progress at clinical sites and maintaining clinical records of assignments.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years of full-time experience working in a clinical setting in a healthcare facility, including 160-hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting
  • Current and unencumbered medical assistant credential
  • Associate degree or higher education preferred or willingness to actively pursue completion of a degree.
  • Requires completion of EDUC 147 – Intro to Teaching Online and EDUC 149 Teaching with LMS Software.
  • Current BLS for health care providers by American Heart Association is required.
  • Up-to-date immunizations.
  • Medical Assisting administrative and clinical skills are required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and current experience with or willingness to learn Learning Management Software such as Canvas.
  • Be proficient in administrative and clerical procedures and systems including: Word processing, managing files and records, maintaining spreadsheets and databases.
  • Exhibit qualities of emotional maturity, genuineness, self-confidence, self-directed, common sense, judgement, fairness, creativity, discretion, decisiveness, resiliency, adaptability, courage of convictions, tolerance of ambiguity, integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, maintain a current driver’s license and insurance.
  • Driving to skills lab sites and clinical locations is required and may involve several hours in the vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for online, in-class, and clinical skills lab instruction
  • Adequately prepare course materials and lessons
  • Provide appropriate and varied instructional experiences to meet the objectives of the program.
  • Maintain clinical and educational competencies and evaluation in areas of instructional responsibilities
  • Assist with mentoring adjunct instructors
  • Assist in set up for NHA study material and practice tests each semester and give directions to students for course participation and grade requirements
  • Complete weekly grading in course in a timely manner
  • Answer phone messages, email, communication with students, medical assisting team, campus and division in a timely manner
  • Assist with developing, implementing, and conducting assessments on student, course, program, and institutional learning outcomes
  • Utilize Canvas shell, classroom technology, computers and other instructional aids as appropriate
  • Ensure course learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus
  • Recommend changes in curriculum for implementation in cooperation with program director
  • Make appropriate changes in response to recommendations for changes to the curriculum
  • Prepare Canvas sections, including current syllabi, module objectives, learning tools, assignments, exams, videos, handouts and all due dates on time.
  • Assist with planning of orientation
  • Attend and participate in orientation
  • Submit course attendance on time.
  • Avail self to students for individualized and/or group instruction
  • Counsel students as necessary
  • Convene and dismiss skills lab on time
  • Submit course grades on time
  • Assist other medical assisting instructors / faculty in other courses when necessary
  • Assist in inventory and ordering of supplies
  • Attend and participate in career days, roadrunner rounds, career exploration and other collaborative events.
  • Attend medical assisting team, SFCC staff, division, and professional development meetings.
  • Assist with any student medical assisting organizations created
  • Participate in the medical assisting advisory board
  • Assist in data collection for program review, improvements in curriculum, and other projects in the health science division.
  • Assist with accreditation requirements if necessary
  • Serve on councils and committees within the college
  • Actively recruits new students for future cohorts
  • Creates ideas and action plans for marketing the program
  • Assist with graduation planning
  • Attend graduation
  • Participate in any SFCC in-service or community service events
  • Assisting with ongoing planning, systematic development, implementation and evaluation in relationship to philosophy and outcome criteria for the medical assisting program.
  • Ensure direct and indirect supervision of the work of students in the clinical setting
  • Provide appropriate instructional and learning experiences to meet the objectives of the program.
  • Visit students at clinical sites scheduled during Capstone -- observing, guiding and assisting students with patient care and performance of procedures
  • Provide timely and high-quality feedback to students after clinical and Capstone visits
  • Complete end-of-course student evaluations for each course and also while students are at clinical sites
  • Other duties as deemed necessary for the function of the college.
  • During contracted days, full-time faculty must be accessible to students and colleagues in person on campus, by phone or by email during the normal operating hours of the college.
  • Full-time faculty must hold at least 5 Student Support Hours a week during the fall and spring semesters, scheduled over 2 or more days a week, at least 3 hours being held on-ground.
