About The Position

As a Medical Assistant in our Adult Medicine Clinic, you'll work alongside our providers and nursing team to deliver quality, compassionate care that truly matters. You'll be the friendly face that greets patients, the skilled hands that prepare them for care, and the organized professional who keeps everything running smoothly. It's clinical work with heart!

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Current BLS-C upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum). OR
  • Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years. OR
  • Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of one year of experience in clinical medical assisting. OR
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). OR
  • Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years. OR
  • Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.
  • Must Successfully complete all components of Ambulatory orientation as defined by Henry Ford Health.

  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care
  • Ability to problem-solve
  • Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients with a warm greeting and get them settled and ready for their visit.
  • Take vital signs and record them in our electronic health record (EHR) system—keeping the data accurate and timely.
  • Chat with patients to gather their medical history, using your critical thinking skills to ask the right questions.
  • Get everything prepped and ready for exams, procedures, and treatments following our established protocols and best practices.
  • Administer medications and immunizations as directed by the provider, following the six rights of medication administration and maintaining detailed records.
  • Document all patient care activities in the EHR—keeping the clinical picture complete and current.
  • Stay alert and ready to respond quickly if any emergencies arise.
  • Keep on top of patient requests coming through phone calls, In Basket messages, and My Chart, responding promptly and documenting everything in the EHR.
  • Enter medication, radiology, and lab orders into the EHR for provider review and sign-off.
  • Send patients off with clear after-visit instructions and a smile, ensuring they know what comes next.
  • Prepare medication refill requests for provider review and signature in the EHR.
