About The Position

Austin Regional Clinic (ARC) is seeking a Medical Assistant (PRN Site Specific) to support provider practices by assisting with direct patient care duties. This role involves patient call backs, managing refill requests, performing diagnostic testing, maintaining supply inventory, and cleaning/maintaining medical equipment. The Medical Assistant will ensure compliance and confidentiality while promoting the organization's mission and philosophy. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet one of the following: Medical Assistant experience, or CNA/EMT/PCT (or other comparable experience) providing direct patient care, beyond Activities of Daily Living, including experience taking manual vitals and giving medications and/or injections, or Graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Ability to administer medications & injections within scope of position within 90 days of hire.

  • Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months or more experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take and document vital signs, and prepare patients for provider examination.
  • Administer medication under physician’s direction and within the scope of practice.
  • Perform diagnostic testing such as EKGs, audiograms, typanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings, and document in EPIC EMR.
  • Review Provider refill in basket and assist with daily medication refill requests using the ARC refill protocol.
  • Review EPIC triage call in basket for callbacks.
  • Review result notes in basket and call/inform patients of normal lab results.
  • Ensure rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and within expiration dates.
  • Clean patient rooms as needed, including proper handling of dirty laundry.
  • Ensure laundry cart is stocked with fresh linens daily.
  • Follow directions from nursing team leader or supervisor.
  • Follow clinic protocols.
  • Provide patients with educational materials as directed.
  • Adhere to all company policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follow the core competencies set forth by the Company.
  • Work holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy.
  • Answer incoming phone calls for nursing triage, determining acuity and forwarding to appropriate clinical staff if necessary.
  • Handle various patient inquiries including ADD symptoms/Questions, Medication Refill requests, Referral questions, requests for copies of lab or immunization records, requests for lab releasing to mychart, lab results if sign off by provider, and general calls from pharmacies and medication not covered by insurance.
  • Utilize smart phrases when taking phone messages and routing directly to the provider.
  • Post patient test results through the patient’s mychart portal.
  • Refill medication following the ARC refill protocols.
  • Assist providers with procedures by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning and storing equipment after exam.
  • Obtain applicable consents and complete all necessary documentation in EPIC EMR.
  • Maintain equipment (autoclaves, sterilizes, washes speculums, checks expiration dates, etc.).
  • Perform other duties within the scope of unlicensed personnel as assigned.
