About The Position

Austin Regional Clinic (ARC) is seeking a PRN Medical Assistant to support provider practices in Central Texas. ARC has been recognized as a top employer for over 15 years and is one of the largest professional medical groups in the region with over 35 locations. This role, under the supervision of nursing leadership, involves direct patient care, patient call backs, and managing refill requests. The Medical Assistant will also perform diagnostic testing, maintain inventory, and ensure medical equipment is clean and functional, all while adhering to organizational compliance, confidentiality, and mission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria: Medical Assistant experience, or CNA/EMT/PCT (or other comparable experience) providing direct patient care beyond Activities of Daily Living, including experience taking manual vitals and giving medications and/or injections, or Graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Ability to administer medications & injections within scope of position within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months or more experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Rooms patients, takes and documents vital signs, and prepares patients for provider examination.
  • Administers medication under physician’s direction and within the scope of practice.
  • Performs diagnostic testing such as EKGs, audiograms, typanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings, documenting in EPIC EMR.
  • Reviews Provider refill in basket and assists with daily medication refill requests using the ARC refill protocol.
  • Reviews EPIC triage call in basket for callbacks.
  • Reviews result notes and informs patients of normal lab results.
  • Ensures patient rooms are properly stocked with current supplies within expiration dates.
  • Cleans patient rooms and handles dirty laundry.
  • Ensures the laundry cart is stocked with fresh linens daily.
  • Follows directions from the nursing team leader or supervisor and clinic protocols.
  • Provides patients with educational materials as directed.
  • Adheres to all company policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company.
  • Works holiday shifts as required by Company policy.
  • Answers incoming phone calls for nursing triage, determining acuity and forwarding to appropriate clinical staff if necessary.
  • Handles various patient inquiries including ADD symptoms/Questions, medication refill requests, referral questions, requests for records, lab releases, pharmacy calls, and medication coverage issues.
  • Utilizes smart phrases for phone messages and routes them to the provider.
  • Posts patient test results through the patient’s mychart portal.
  • Refills medication following ARC refill protocols.
  • Assists providers with procedures by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning/storing equipment.
  • Obtains applicable consents and completes necessary documentation in EPIC EMR.
  • Maintains medical equipment (e.g., autoclaves, sterilizers, checks expiration dates).
  • Performs other duties within the scope of unlicensed personnel as assigned.
