About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant to join their team in Pocatello, ID. This part-time role is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, both clinically and administratively. The Medical Assistant will be involved in collecting and processing routine tests, returning results to the doctor, and providing excellent customer service to patients, doctors, and other medical staff. The position requires the ability to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks. Responsibilities include performing CLIA-waived moderate testing, managing patient referrals, handling charts, cleaning and stocking rooms, reconciling labs, taking patient vitals and history, assisting with Healthy Connection referrals and eligibility, making collection calls, obtaining prior authorizations, checking patients in and out, collecting payments, scanning, discharging, answering phones, posting charges, some coding/billing, managing medical records, performing blood draws, and administering injections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Current PEARS/ACLS Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid CMA certificate/license.
  • Drug screen/breath alcohol certified.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Ability to operate vital sign monitoring devices and manual BP equipment.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must understand medical terminology.
  • General Math skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy course and phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • IV certification preferred.
  • Bilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physician with patient care, clerical and clinical duties.
  • Collect and process routine testing, and return results to the doctor.
  • Provide good customer service on the phone, to patients, doctors, and other medical staff.
  • Perform CLIA waived moderate testing.
  • Manage patient referrals, pull charts, file, clean/wrap instruments, and stock rooms.
  • Reconcile labs, room patients, take vitals and history.
  • Assist with Healthy Connection referrals/eligibility, collection calls, and prior authorizations.
  • Check patients in/out at the front desk, collecting pertinent information.
  • Collect and process payments, scan and discharge patients.
  • Answer phones, post charges, perform some coding/billing, and manage medical records.
  • Perform blood draws and give injections.
  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist as needed.
  • Collect patient history and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Assist physician with various procedures and charting.
  • Relay instructions to patients.
  • Collect correct blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling.
  • Follow hospital policies for transporting and delivering samples to the laboratory.
  • Handle laboratory supplies and stock supplies.
  • Ensure patients receive appropriate, competent, and quality clinical care.
  • Adhere to all policy and procedures.
  • Provide age-appropriate care.
  • Report, monitor, and manage patient and staff incidents.
  • Monitor and manage patient and physician satisfaction results.
  • Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Perform sterile tech duties.
  • Send/receive patient medical records.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Manage and file charts ensuring information is complete.
  • Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits.
  • Perform special tests such as clotting times, bleeding times, and glucose tolerance tests and report results.
  • Maintain Point of Care documents and perform Quality Control management.
  • Orient and mentor new staff members.
  • Show good customer service on the phone and in person.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
