The Medical Assistant (MA) in the Cardiology Clinic plays a crucial role in patient care by adhering to the Medical Assistant scope of practice and following all policies and procedures. This role involves performing essential rooming/visit tasks such as taking vital signs, reconciling medications, documenting medical history, performing health maintenance checks, reviewing allergies, and conducting screenings for conditions like depression, suicide, falls, and social drivers of health. The MA will also assist providers with procedures, manage laboratory duties including venipuncture and specimen handling, perform Point of Care testing (POCT), and administer medications and vaccines safely. Additional duties may include medication refills, insurance authorizations, completing logs, patient messaging, ordering supplies, scheduling appointments, and managing referrals. The position requires cross-training for duties relevant to the specialty, effective communication, teamwork, and maintaining a clean and well-stocked work environment. The MA must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
