About The Position

Medical Assistants (MAs) at Scripps Coastal Medical Center Jefferson are integral to the Family Medicine care team, delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. MAs collaborate closely with providers, LVNs, and leadership to support daily operations, close care gaps, and foster relationships with patients and families. We seek individuals who take ownership of their work, value teamwork, and are motivated to grow professionally. The site offers strong leadership support, opportunities for skill development, and a culture that recognizes and appreciates the daily impact of MAs. MAs receive cross-training in both pediatrics and family medicine, setting them up for success in a dynamic, hands-on environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program, OR Medical Assistance Certification, OR a minimum of two years of experience as a military corpsman
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience as a MA in an outpatient setting
  • Primary care experience
  • Pediatric experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist the department clinically as a Medical Assistant and support the team with front office responsibilities such as answering phones, scheduling, and call backs when needed.
  • Check patient vitals, room patients, stock patient rooms, assist with procedures and provide patient education as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment.
  • Organize and perform patient care services that support the physician’s practice.
  • Check patients in and out with administrative duties as needed.
  • Assist in preparing patients for examination/procedures.
  • Assist physicians with procedures.
  • Relay instructions from the physician to the patient or authorized person.
  • Collect patient data in person and by phone and document patient concerns, messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician's review.
  • Administer medications specifically directed by the physician.
  • Perform vital sign documentation.
  • Schedule appointments and procedures.
  • Complete and accurate message taking.
  • Route messages to the appropriate area for direction.
  • Order and referral entry.
  • Acquisition of pre-certifications and setting up of cases in EPIC.
  • Basic registration and updating of demographics.
