About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Dover Site Manager and matrix supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Medical Van Medical Assistant performs all duties of a medical assistant and serves as a resource for the outreach team, provider, and other MAs participating in Medical Van events. This role requires demonstrated mastery of clinical skills and working at the top of one's scope of practice. The Medical Van CMA ensures the Medical Team functions as an extension of the medical site by maintaining a well-trained team and necessary resources to provide primary medical care to patients unable to visit permanent sites.

Requirements

Be fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
Be proficient in the use of computers, internet navigation and keyboarding.
Have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, and be a team player.
Be able to relate well to a diverse group of patients and staff.
Demonstrate self-motivation and leadership skills necessary to work offsite and without direct supervision.
Display positive attitude and act as positive agent for change in daily clinical practice as it applies to the Medical Van.
Demonstrate consistent team-oriented work practices.
Be able and willing to work on an as needed basis and in a flexible schedule to meet the operational needs of the Medical Van.
Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
Have current certification as a Medical Assistant.
Have current certification for EKG, Phlebotomy and BLS.
Minimum 1 year experience as CMA at Zufall Health Center.

Responsibilities

Perform duties and responsibilities as outlined in the CMA job description.
Act as primary CMA for most Medical Van related events.
Act as preceptor for new CMA Medical Van staff, providing orientation and training on clinical policies and procedures.
Participate in Care Team meetings (i.e., huddles) to prepare for patient visits and anticipate needs.
Pre-visit planning for patients on van schedule, including reviewing charts to identify patient needs during provider visits.
Contact patients, especially new ones without EMR records, for pre-visit planning.
Follow up with patients regarding results or needed future appointments as requested by the provider.
Review scope of services for each Medical Van outing and ensure availability of appropriate supplies, medications, vaccines, equipment, and patient forms.
Inventory all consumable supplies and medications (including emergency medications) on the Medical Van and ensure replenishment prior to any scheduled or emergency outings.
Remove/replace items close to expiration.
Ensure all cardboard boxes are removed from the van following re-stocking.
Ensure medical equipment is properly inventoried with current labels and receives regular maintenance/calibration per manufacturer guidelines and Zufall’s policies.
Monitor the function of all clinical equipment on the van (e.g., refrigerators, vaccine coolers, glucometer, A1C machine, Hgb meter, exam tables, EKG machines, AED, Oxygen tank) and arrange for repair/replacement as necessary.
Notify manager of any concerns related to equipment or new equipment needs.
Monitor refrigerator temperature and document daily per Zufall Vaccine Maintenance Policy.
Keep all required logs up to date, including but not limited to glucose, A1C, Hemoglobin, HIV, Strep, Pregnancy, Covid, AED, Oxygen tank, etc.
Participate in collaborative initiatives and PDSA's as directed by PCMH Coordinator, Director of Nursing, and Chief Medical Officer.
Ensure examination rooms and other clinical areas are clean at the end of the day.
Ensure tables and chairs are wiped down and all equipment and wall units are cleaned with antibacterial wipes.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the PCMH Coordinator or Site Administrator and the Director of Nursing.
Satisfactorily complete competency testing for translation, vital signs and measurements, TB skin tests, waived POC lab tests, infection prevention and control, sterilization process and instrument preparation, OSHA, immunization administration and reconciliation, standing orders, medical waste management, patient preparation for visit, cultural competency, and customer service.
Attend appropriate outreach meetings to gather data necessary to ensure clinician and patient needs are met during outreach van visits.
Utilize meeting content to effect change in personal and organizational clinical practice.
Identify and recommend solutions to clinical procedural and workflow related issues pertaining to the Medical Van.
Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
When not performing Medical Van tasks, work at permanent sites as needed.
Location may vary to meet the immediate needs of the organization.
