About The Position

Mann Eye is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our growing Orbital Oncology team. This unique specialty combines ophthalmology and oncology, providing care for patients with tumors affecting the eye, eyelids, tear ducts, and surrounding orbital structures. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting physicians and advanced practice providers while helping patients navigate complex diagnoses and treatment plans. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary team and make a meaningful impact on patients' lives every day.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) preferred.
  • BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience using electronic medical record systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to patient confidentiality and professionalism.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of experience in ophthalmology, oculoplastics, oncology, or another surgical specialty.
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic terminology and ocular anatomy.
  • Experience caring for patients with cancer or other complex medical conditions.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary specialty clinic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and escort patients throughout their visit while ensuring a positive patient experience.
  • Obtain and document medical histories, medications, allergies, and other relevant clinical information.
  • Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, weight, and pain scores.
  • Perform visual acuity testing and assist with basic ophthalmic assessments.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Assist physicians with in-office procedures, including biopsies, lesion excisions, injections, and wound care.
  • Provide patient education regarding procedures, medications, postoperative care, and follow-up instructions.
  • Prepare examination rooms and procedure trays while maintaining sterile technique and infection control standards.
  • Clean and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments.
  • Coordinate imaging studies, laboratory testing, pathology submissions, and outside medical records.
  • Facilitate referrals and appointments with consulting specialists and ancillary services.
  • Manage patient communications, phone calls, and electronic medical record (EMR) messages.
  • Assist with obtaining prior authorizations for medications, imaging, and procedures.
  • Schedule appointments, procedures, and follow-up visits.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR.
  • Assist with insurance forms, disability paperwork, FMLA documentation, and related administrative tasks.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, caregivers, providers, and support departments.
  • Help coordinate care for patients undergoing surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy.
  • Respond to patient questions with professionalism, empathy, and urgency when needed.
  • Reinforce treatment plans and ensure patients understand their care journey.
