About The Position

Under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse, performs a full range of duties as a Medical Assistant. Typical duties include rooming patients and obtaining basic treatment information; performing various screening tests in order to prepare patients for physical examinations; administering vaccinations; documenting patients chief complaint, vital signs, current medications and allergies in electronic medical record; performing lab work; and preparing supplies/equipment for patient exams including sterilization for minor surgical procedures.

Requirements

  • High school education
  • Six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests
  • Certification as a medical assistant.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Microsoft products, Outlook email and calendar functions, Athena EHR, and HIPAA/Fraud compliance.
  • Critical decision making skills while under stress.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed to interact with patients, physicians and nursing staff.
  • Experience in the use word processing and database software, a specified medical course such as Nurse Health Aid and Phlebotomy, or Medical Billing and Medical Terminology experience.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record and patient scheduling systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients in a time-efficient manner, obtaining and documenting accurate information, using appropriate forms, assuring all necessary information is available for provider.
  • Perform treatments/procedures requested by providers (i.e. EKG, dressing changes, immunizations, etc.) and document appropriately.
  • Assist providers with routine exam and minor surgeries
  • Function as a primary care staff member in the ordering of Student Health Service supplies and help with restocking of supplies as needed.
  • Prepare exam or minor surgery rooms with correct equipment and supplies for provider utilization.
  • When assigned to different clinic areas, assume responsibilities consistent with guidelines.
  • Exhibit proper handling of blood and bodily fluids.
  • Provide high quality health care to patients in other Olin clinics as needed.
  • Maintain Basic Life Support and Compliance certifications
  • Assist in developing, monitoring, and implementing Quality Improvement Standards as it pertains to medical assisting.
  • Understands the team concept and displays a willingness to work as a team member and take direction as needed from the RN and provide support to our providers.
  • Maintain certification for Medical Assistant.
