About The Position

Under the general direction and supervision of the Clinic Administrator and/or Provider, prepares patients for clinical encounters to include patient screening and collection of health history, as well as coordinates and follow-up on patient care. This role involves performing clinical procedures, assisting providers, coordinating patient care, managing patient records, and operating medical equipment. The Medical Assistant must operate within the scope of practice delineated by the Physician and ensure compliance with clinic protocols and policies.

Requirements

  • MA Certification is required within one year of hire.
  • State of Idaho LPN License required
  • Pediatric and adult injection skills.
  • Phlebotomy skills.
  • Current computer skills.
  • Knowledge of common medical practice equipment.
  • Knowledge of common outpatient medical documentation.
  • Knowledge of common office equipment (copier, fax, printer, etc.).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Current BLS certification is preferred.
  • One year recent experience in a health care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with and timely responds to patients in your provider panel(s) who walk into the center for any reason.
  • Performs clinical procedures within appropriate scope of practice (e.g. pediatric and adult injections, tympanograpy, audiometry, spirometry, dispenses medications, venipuncture, EKGs, vision screening, dressing changes, etc.)
  • Ensures chart is updated with all testing, procedures, and injections provided to the patient.
  • Documents and submits appropriate CPT codes and diagnosis for provider approval.
  • Assists provider with procedures.
  • Performs patient follow-up and coordinates care (e.g. obtains prior authorizations, completes patient forms/documents for provider review, follows-up on abnormal results, etc.), per clinic protocol.
  • Refills patient medications per clinic protocol.
  • Assesses patients paperwork to determine what needs to be done, including review health record (e.g., health history, labs, imaging, immunizations) and complete it within scope of abilities to give to provider.
  • Enters in and tracks patient recalls (childhood and adult immunizations, future blood work, abnormal paps, colonoscopies, etc.).
  • Tracks outpatient referrals to completion.
  • Operates and maintains centers medical equipment based on the manufacture instructions and clinic protocols.
  • Reviews and coordinates with other departments and integrates work with other staff to ensure timely and accurate patient flow.
  • Participates in meetings.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Complies with Health West Inc.'s policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes specialized office and medical equipment following procedures implemented by Health West Inc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
