About The Position

Symba Center is a faith-based, non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive medical, mental health, recuperative care, case management, housing navigation, substance use disorder counseling, and other wraparound services. Our mission is to implement and inspire innovative solutions to meet the health and wellness needs of low-income, homeless, and uninsured individuals in our community. We strive to build partnerships that bridge gaps in health access for this population by understanding community needs, identifying effective approaches, and advancing efforts to promote the broader social good. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • Valid, unrestricted CA driver’s license.
  • Must be comfortable working in a recuperative care environment.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years related experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with underserved populations facing socioeconomic barriers to healthcare is preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross preferred.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Calendar, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to gather medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment rooms for patient examinations.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, disposing of contaminated supplies properly.
  • Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, and test results in medical records.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and assist with preparation for the physician.
  • Support physicians during examinations and treatments by handing over instruments, administering injections, or removing sutures.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician and recognize when drug refills are necessary.
  • Change wound dressings and set up medical laboratory equipment.
  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies, including administering CPR or first aid.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
