About The Position

The Puyallup FT UC MA is a full-time, hourly Medical Assistant position supporting our urgent care/clinic team in Puyallup. In this role, you will provide both clinical and front-office support, ensuring efficient patient flow and high-quality care. You will assist with rooming patients, performing point-of-care testing (POCT), completing phlebotomy, and handling a variety of administrative tasks at the front desk. Working closely with providers, nurses, and other staff, you will play a key role in creating a positive patient experience in a fast-paced outpatient environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent training.
Minimum of 1 year of recent experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient, urgent care, or similar clinical setting.
Demonstrated experience in rooming patients, including obtaining vital signs and documenting medical history and medications.
Proficiency with point-of-care testing (POCT) workflows and equipment, following established policies and quality control procedures.
Hands-on phlebotomy experience, including venipuncture and specimen handling in a clinical environment.
Front office experience in a medical setting, including patient registration, appointment scheduling, and basic insurance and billing workflows.
Ability to use electronic medical record (EMR) systems and basic computer applications (e.g., email, scheduling, data entry).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
Knowledge of standard medical terminology, infection control practices, and patient privacy/HIPAA requirements.
Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively and compassionately with diverse patient populations.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work scheduled hours as a full-time, hourly employee, including possible evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on clinic needs.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and to follow provider and supervisor directions within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift or move patients and equipment as required for typical Medical Assistant duties.

Responsibilities

Greet and room patients, verify identity, obtain and document vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, and medications in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring comfort, safety, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
Perform point-of-care testing (POCT) such as rapid strep, flu, urinalysis, blood glucose, and other tests in accordance with clinic protocols and quality standards.
Conduct phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary blood collection, label and process specimens accurately, and coordinate pickup or transport to the laboratory.
Support front office operations by answering phones, scheduling and confirming appointments, checking patients in and out, and updating patient demographics and insurance information.
Collect and process co-pays and other patient payments, follow basic billing workflows, and ensure accurate documentation of services.
Assist providers with minor procedures, wound care, and other in-clinic treatments, preparing instruments, supplies, and rooms as needed.
Clean, stock, and turn over exam rooms between patients; maintain adequate inventory of clinical and office supplies.
Follow infection prevention, safety, and quality protocols, including proper specimen handling, equipment cleaning, and waste disposal.
Document all clinical and administrative activities accurately and timely in the EMR, maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
Participate in daily huddles and team communication to support patient flow, problem solve scheduling issues, and coordinate care.
Support patient education by reinforcing provider instructions, providing after-visit summaries, and answering basic questions within scope of practice.
Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, and medical records requests as directed.
Contribute to a positive, respectful, and service-oriented environment for patients, families, and colleagues.
Participate in ongoing training, competency checks, and quality improvement initiatives relevant to Medical Assistant practice.
