About The Position

Woman’s Physician Practices is looking for a full-time Medical Assistant. This role requires the ability to float to other Baton Rouge clinics and travel to the Lafayette clinic on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for preparing patients for provider visits, assisting with exams and procedures, managing supplies, maintaining patient records, scheduling appointments and tests, handling pre-certifications, and performing general clerical duties. The position also involves answering phone calls, coding procedures, working with denied accounts, coordinating physician meetings and schedules, ordering medications, and documenting medication usage. The Medical Assistant will also perform other assigned duties and projects.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Current certification as a medical assistant
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a clear record

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience in an specialty clinic setting is strongly preferred
  • Previous medication administration experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Float to other Baton Rouge clinics and travel to the Lafayette clinic on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • Meet, greet, and escort patients to exam rooms; prepare patients for provider’s visit by obtaining initial information and vital signs including all medical history, weight and height, blood pressure, etc.
  • Assist physician with exams, tests, and minor procedures; clean instruments; prepare sterile trays for procedures.
  • Order, stock, and maintain supplies for exam rooms; review all medication and supplies for expiration dates.
  • Create patient's charts; verify patient's medical records for pertinent data; review and maintain current patient information and demographic data.
  • Schedule appointments and tests; pre-certify all admissions, surgeries, and outpatient procedures for insurance coverage; review all requisitions (labs and x-rays) for completeness and report results to physician; coordinate appointments and referrals with another physician.
  • Perform general clerical duties as requested.
  • Assist other clinic staff members as needed.
  • Answer, screen, and return phone calls regarding prescription orders and refills, patient questions, etc.
  • Responsible for CPT and ICD-10 coding for all procedures; work and correct denied and problem accounts on a weekly basis.
  • Responsible for meeting with Regulatory Agencies.
  • Coordinate physician meetings including medical review panels, depositions, hospital committee meetings.
  • Coordinate and maintain surgery schedule for physicians.
  • Order and receive medications as needed from Pharmacy.
  • Document as necessary any utilization of medications per provider order within drug log and/or medical record.
  • Use ICD-10 coding for all imaging procedures and imaging pre-certifications.
  • Perform other department and clinic specific duties and projects as assigned.
