Requirements

  • High School Diploma Required
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant certification required (CMA/ RMA/ ABR-OE)
  • Minimum of one-year work experience in a public contact job
  • Knowledge of the health care field
  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and their families
  • Skill in performing tasks correctly
  • Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions
  • Skill in understanding patient education needs and effectively sharing information with patients and their families
  • Skill in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor
  • Ability to be flexible and handle changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate clearly

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all HIPAA and OSHA regulations and policies.
  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms.
  • Assist patients with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exams.
  • Collect patient history and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Assist physicians/nurses with various procedures.
  • Chart patient information.
  • Relay instructions to patients/families.
  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information.
  • Send/receive patient medical records.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Complete forms and requisitions.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Manage charts to ensure information is complete and filed appropriately.
  • Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Clean sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance and keep appropriate records.
  • Order, sort, and store supplies.
  • Restock exam/procedure rooms.
  • Respect and promote patient rights.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency codes.
  • Share problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
