About The Position

Michigan Surgical Center is seeking a dynamic, adaptable PRN Medical Assistant for a temporary, high-hour role at their premier Utica facility. This position offers the opportunity to work directly alongside experienced Registered Nurses, gain comprehensive experience in Pre-Op and Post-Op patient care, and enjoy a robust schedule of 32 to 36 hours per week. The Medical Assistant will support the delivery of urological services, perform routine administrative and clinical tasks, and function as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with staff to achieve efficient patient care delivery and desired outcomes.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience (based on State regulation requirements)
6 months experience working within a physician’s office desired.
Urology experience desired.
Availability to commit to 32–36 hours per week for this temporary assignment.
Strong communication skills, a high level of empathy, and an energetic work ethic.

Nice To Haves

Certified or Registered status is a plus, but not required.
A team player who loves working side-by-side with nursing staff to deliver top-notch patient outcomes.
Certification or Registration preferred.
Urology experience desired.

Responsibilities

Assist RNs with crucial Pre-Operative prep to ensure patients are comfortable and ready for their procedures.
Support Post-Operative recovery care, helping patients transition safely and smoothly following their surgeries.
Provide exceptional hands-on patient care, ensuring a warm, professional, and efficient experience.
Maintain a seamless flow between the pre-and-post-op clinical areas.
Perform various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of their assigned direct supervisor.
Confer with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule appointments of patients.
Greet and prepare patients.
Measure and record vital signs.
Record patient interview, history, and chief complaint.
Provide patient education with regards to medications, management of diseases, home treatments and special diets.
Prepare patients for examinations and perform routing screening tests.
Assist physicians with exams.
Perform phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
Perform basic lab tests.
Perform EKG’s.
Assist with X-ray and physician therapy procedures.
Prepare and administer medications with physician authorization.
Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures and other first aid procedures.
Use CPR skills when necessary.
Prepare accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
Open office in the morning and close in the afternoon.
Assist in maintaining patient logs for lab requests, CT scans and other treatment orders.
Maintain prescription ledger when needed.
Ensure the back office has good flow, keeps rooms full and assists with room turnover.
Perform new patient thorough work-up (x-rays, vitals, new patient packet explanation).
Add medical history on all new patients and update all established patients’ history accurately.
Perform accurate and complete room set-up for physician.
Ensure that all patients medication is updated before physician visit.
Handle set-up for in office surgical procedures.
Ensure appropriate consent form is completed correctly avoiding the use of too many medical abbreviations within the consent forms.
Scribe as assigned per physician office flow.
Prepare for seeing patients the following day, including patient confirmation for next day visit.
Complete patient medical record requests when necessary.
Assist in the orientation and training of new personnel.
Ensure proper hand off of responsibilities once their task is completed.
Meet established attendance criteria and start work promptly.
Be punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts.

Ensure that all medical records are accurate and complete for all patients.

Regularly adhere and support compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned including, but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA & CMS guidelines for Parts C & D on General Compliance and Fraud, Waste & Abuse.
