About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physician, PA or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care and procedures. The Medical Assistant will prepare the examination room, escort patients into the room, and clean the examination room when the exam is complete. They will maintain efficient patient flow, ensure proper preparation for patient visits, and prepare pertinent information needed for patient visits. The MA will communicate and provide care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient. They will answer the telephone appropriately, direct calls, and/or take accurate messages. Scheduling appointments accurately and appropriately according to departmental guidelines is also a responsibility. The MA will consistently and accurately stock examination rooms with all necessary supplies and assist in ordering and maintaining all supplies as assigned. Reconciling encounters daily and accurately, according to policy guidelines, is required. The MA will effectively communicate problems, concerns, or issues to the Supervisor and/or Manager appropriately and promptly. They will understand and perform within scope of practice. Obtaining vital signs (BP, temp, pulse, height & weight) accurately and completely as required, and documenting appropriately in EHR are key duties. Reviewing and updating the medication list and accurately documenting known allergies in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) is essential. Demonstrating an understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures is necessary. Appropriately entering orders and scheduling appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR, and providing referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the PMS and EHR are required. The MA will appropriately adhere to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposal of medical waste. Maintaining proficiency with department-specific equipment, troubleshooting, and reporting malfunctions promptly are also part of the role. Facilitating transition of care to UCC/Hospital and demonstrating flexibility with various work schedules are expected. All other duties as assigned, including recognizing and performing duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned, and providing scribing services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Graduated from an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program, required.
  • 0-1 year related work experience, required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or within 30 days of hire, required.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required.
  • Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner, required.
  • Basic proficiency in computer use, required.
  • Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed, required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-4 years related work experience, preferred.
