About The Position

The Medical Assistant will perform a combination of duties under the direction of a provider, including screening patients for medical histories, recording vital signs and EKGs, and preparing patients for examinations. Responsibilities also include scheduling follow-up appointments, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, phlebotomy, and ensuring proper disposal of contaminated supplies. The role involves preparing instruments for sterilization, stocking examination rooms, ordering supplies, and maintaining communication with health agencies for immunization and communicable disease reporting. Additional duties include moving equipment, assisting in examinations and treatments, operating equipment, preparing patient medical records (charts) or EMRs, gathering patient information and complaints, performing various tests, logging laboratory and radiology results, completing various forms (Medical, Physical, Disability, Schools), tracking inventory for supplies and vaccines, interviewing patients, ensuring charts are prepared for providers, maintaining patient flow, setting up examination rooms, distributing educational materials, assisting with prescription refills, and recalling or rescheduling patients. The role also requires tracking refrigerator/freezer temperatures and completing appropriate forms, and performing other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification and Training from a Vocational/Technical or Career Program.
  • Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Screen all patients for medical histories, recording vital signs, EKG.
  • Record X-Ray and/or Sonogram in patient medical record charts.
  • Prepare patient for examination and assist the provider as necessary during the examination.
  • Schedule patients for follow-up as necessary.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, phlebotomy.
  • Ensure the appropriate disposal of contaminated supplies.
  • Prepare instruments for sterilization.
  • Stock examination rooms.
  • Order supplies as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with various health agencies for immunization reporting, communicable diseases, etc.
  • Move equipment when or where necessary.
  • Assist in the examination and treatment of patient.
  • Operate equipment and perform EKG as indicated.
  • Prepare patient medical record (chart) and/or EMR with appropriate intake sheets.
  • Gather information, complaints, take vital signs, perform various tests as ordered.
  • Log in patient medical record and/or EMR Laboratory and Radiology results.
  • Perform directives as requested by physicians.
  • Complete various forms for Medical, Physical, Disability, and Schools.
  • Track inventory for supplies, vaccines etc.
  • Interview patient.
  • Ensure chart is available, with relevant lab work and test reports if indicated, for the provider when the provider sees the patient.
  • Assist with maintaining the patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Assist in escorting patients and specimens throughout the facility.
  • Set up examination rooms for various primary and specialty care physicians.
  • Distribute appropriate educational material to patient as directed.
  • Assist in the authorization of prescription refills as directed by the physician.
  • Recall or Reschedule of patients as instructed.
  • Intake of patient medical history prior to provider examination, complete time out form, point of care testing including nasal and throat swab, CIR updating, and STD reporting.
  • Track temperature in refrigerator/freezer; complete appropriate forms.
  • Perform other duties as required.
