About The Position

Certified Medical Assistants and Medical Assistants play an important supporting role to the staff and patients of Midland Community Healthcare Services. They are expected to provide excellent customer service while performing tasks such as taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, and drawing blood. Certified Medical Assistants are utilized based on their scope of practice and the scope of their abilities, and are evaluated and credentialed individually to determine their own unique scope of abilities. Medical Assistants are also utilized based on their scope of practice and abilities, and are evaluated and credentialed individually.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate from a recognized institution (Certified Medical Assistant only). Certificate must be kept up to date.
  • No felony results on a criminal background screening.
  • Drug Screen Test with a negative result.
  • Bilingual (Medical Assistant only).

Nice To Haves

  • 1 – 3 years of customer service experience preferred.
  • 1 – 3 years of medical assisting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to obtain medical histories, vital statistics, weight, height, blood pressure, temperature, and test results to place in the medical record.
  • Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, ensuring they are neat and clean.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies according to OSHA and clinic policy.
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities to assist other departments as needed.
  • Prepare and administer medication, immunization, shots, and vaccines as directed by a physician (Certified Medical Assistant only).
  • Educate patients regarding treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician's instructions as directed by physicians.
  • Collect blood via finger stick, collect urine, fecal, cultures, and other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for laboratory testing.
  • Assist physicians as needed in examining and treating patients during procedures, ensuring proper tools and supplies are available.
  • Maintain patient charts in the electronic medical record system, ensuring accuracy.
  • Update patient records as required.
  • Send patient correspondence as required through clinic procedure.
  • Maintain clinical supplies through the proper procurement procedure.
  • Assist in maintaining proper stock and inventory of medical supplies.
  • Assist in quality improvement, auditing, safety, and compliance measures of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Clinic Manager and/or Charge Nurse.
