About The Position

HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland is seeking a Medical Assistant to join their Pain Management team. The Medical Assistant performs a variety of activities including direct patient care, administrative tasks, and laboratory functions. Patient care may involve individuals of all ages, both in-person and over the phone, requiring assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation skills, all under the supervision of a physician or mid-level provider. Additionally, Medical Assistants may handle reception duties, such as greeting patients and visitors, and assist with the administrative aspects of patient visits.

Requirements

  • Completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
  • Medical Assistant (MA) Certification/Registration required or must be obtained within 90 days of start date from one of the following credentialing organizations: Certified MA from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Registered MA from American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Certified Clinical MA (CCMA) from National Healthcare Association (NHA), Registered MA from American Allied Health (AAH), Nationally Registered CMA (NRCMA) from National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) or Medical Assistant Certification (MAC) from American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), Podiatric MA Certified (PMAC) from American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from International Joint Commission on Allied Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO), Certified Clinical MA (CCMA) from National Performance Specialists (NPS).
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) is required within 60 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 or more years of Medical Assistant experience may be considered in lieu of completion of program per department discretion.
  • One year of clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide variety of activities that may include both direct patient care, as well as administrative and laboratory functions.
  • Works with patients of all ages, in-person and over the phone.
  • Completes tasks involving the use of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation skills.
  • Provides all patient care under the direct supervision of the physician and/or mid-level provider.
  • Engages in reception activities, greeting and assisting patients and visitors.
  • Helps complete the business side of a patient visit.
