Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification is required.
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for Meaningful use.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Active Medical Assistant certification such as: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.
  • Employees working in specific Behavioral Health clinical settings serving children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for exam and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, and other necessary measurements, and documenting chief complaint and pain scores. Reports any changes in patient condition to the clinician.
  • Assists providers with exams and minor in-office procedures, including taking vital signs, performing phlebotomies, ear irrigations, and EKGs. Acts as a chaperone as needed, adheres to universal precautions, and prioritizes patient flow.
  • Coordinates and manages patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling for clinic, hospital, and ancillary treatments. Communicates test results to patients and acts as a resource to clinicians. May administer medications.
  • Provides clerical support for patient notifications and documentation, including maintaining complete medical records with labs, authorizations, X-rays, and previous care information. Ensures accurate and timely billing information.
  • Maintains a clean and functional environment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas. Follows sterilization procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and OSHA guidelines for hazardous substances. Performs basic equipment maintenance and coordinates repairs.
  • Orders supplies as directed and stocks patient care areas. Manages medication ordering and tasks related to medications, including expired items and recalls.
  • Develops and maintains effective communication with internal and external customers, exemplifying service orientation and teamwork.
  • Completes all necessary on-boarding and orientation activities, including simulation training.
  • Works under the direct supervision of providers and interacts with various levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts. Prioritizes data to support patient and family responses to health status changes.
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and professional standards. Provides excellent service to all customers.
